Oregon fires offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer after three-game scoring slump
Oregon head coach Dan Lanning dismissed offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer on Sunday, one day after the Ducks scored only 10 points in a loss to Illinois. According to the report, Oregon has failed to reach 20 points in each of its last three games and has seen its yards-per-play average drop by nearly a full yard compared to the prior season. Mehringer had been on Lanning's staff since 2022, most recently elevated to offensive coordinator after Will Stein departed to become head coach at Kentucky following the 2025 season. Oregon, now 4-3, has not named a replacement and faces No. 24 Northwestern next before a road trip to No. 2 Ohio State.
Why it matters
For coaches: Coordinators and position coaches across college football are reminded that sustained offensive underperformance mid-season can lead to immediate dismissal regardless of tenure.
For athletes: Oregon players on both sides of the ball face an uncertain transition with a new offensive direction still undefined heading into a critical stretch of the schedule.
