Kentucky fined $500,000 for field storming after overtime win over LSU
The SEC announced Sunday that Kentucky will pay a $500,000 fine after fans rushed the field following the Wildcats' 35-34 overtime victory over No. 10 LSU. Under conference rules, that money goes directly to the opposing school, meaning LSU will receive the payment. The SEC's access policy permits on-field celebrations only after opposing personnel and officials have cleared the area safely, a condition that was not met — fans flooded the field almost the instant Kentucky scored the winning two-point conversion, with some approaching LSU head coach Lane Kiffin as security was still guiding him out. The financial penalty was raised to $500,000 in 2025; Kentucky's previous field-storming fine, following a 2021 win over Florida, was $250,000.
fines are paid to the opposing institution, so UK will be sending a check to LSU.
Why it matters
For coaches: Coaches from visiting programs face potential safety concerns when fans storm the field before the area is cleared.
