ESPN signs multiyear renewal with golf simulator league TGL
TGL, the simulator-based golf league co-owned by Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods through TMRW Sports, has agreed to a new multiyear television rights deal with ESPN, the league announced. The league averaged just under 500,000 viewers per episode in its second season, a slight dip from its first, but enough to secure continued carriage. Heading into its third season, TGL is expanding with the addition of a seventh men's team — the Motor City Golf Club, which will include Brooks Koepka — as well as a newly formed women's league that reached its own separate agreement with ESPN and ION.
TGL has given golf something genuinely new, with top PGA Tour players competing in a fast-paced, made-for-primetime team format that puts fans closer to the action than ever before
Why it matters
For brands: Sponsors and partners of TGL gain extended visibility on ESPN's primetime schedule.
For media: The deal confirms ESPN's commitment to TGL content during calendar windows with limited major sports competition.
For athletes: PGA Tour players participating in TGL have secured a continued platform for the league through at least the foreseeable future.
