Alabama reinstates Aden Holloway after drug charge suspension
Alabama guard Aden Holloway is set to return to the court following a suspension stemming from two felony drug charges he faced earlier in the summer, according to a report from Al.com. As part of a plea agreement, Holloway enrolled in the Tuscaloosa County District Attorney's "second chance" program, which requires random drug testing, 50 hours of community service, and educational coursework — an option available to him as a first-time, non-violent offender. His suspension covers three exhibition games and the program's first two regular-season contests, with reinstatement expected in time for Alabama's third game of the season against Oakland on Nov. 9. Holloway missed the 2026 NCAA Tournament entirely due to the suspension, during which Alabama advanced to the Sweet 16 before falling to eventual national champion Michigan.
We were disappointed by the choices Aden made, but we have been encouraged by the way he has responded
Why it matters
For coaches: Coaches and programs must navigate roster availability and team continuity when key contributors face legal suspensions.
For athletes: College athletes facing legal issues should note that participation in diversion programs may preserve playing eligibility, but suspensions can still affect significant portions of a season.
