Alabama dismisses DB Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. following second arrest
Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer announced that defensive back Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. has been dismissed from the program after a second arrest. According to reports, Kirkpatrick was arrested on Friday on misdemeanor charges of doxing and harassing communications, stemming from allegedly sending threatening messages and posting identifying information about a University of Alabama police officer who had arrested him the previous year. Kirkpatrick had been suspended for the remainder of the 2025 season following an initial arrest on charges including reckless endangerment and attempting to elude, before returning to the team in the spring. The third-year defensive back, who participated in 28 games over three seasons and recorded 17 tackles, also carries a separate misdemeanor charge for allegedly leaving the scene of an accident.
Why it matters
For coaches: Program leaders are reminded that reinstating a player after discipline does not preclude later dismissal if new conduct violations occur.
For athletes: College athletes face permanent roster consequences for off-field legal issues, even after being given a second chance following an initial suspension.
